How to disable liveupdate in MetaTrader 5?

If you experience any troubles with new MT5 build, you can roll back to the previous version.

Despite this, MT will constantly try to update itself.

To disable live update, do the following steps:

1) Go to the %appdata%\MetaQuotes\Terminal\ folder:

2) Find the terminal you want to stop update (terminal path is shown in the origin.txt):

3) Delete the liveupdate folder.

Then make a new liveupdate.txt file and rename it to liveupdate (without extension).

4) Do the same with the %appdata%\MetaQuotes\WebInstall folder (replace it with the empty file).

5) Enjoy ;)

Did it work for you before?

I haven't tried this lately. My working terminal is always updated to the latest beta-version, and terminals with live accounts are on the last stable release from broker.

When a terminal works well with an EA, i don't want it makes updates!

This is the first time i try this, on the 4000 version of MT5!

It always replace my files by folders! Don't know how to fix it?

One day they will force you to update. Better be prepared for that.

I don't know how to fix it.

1) run the platform in the Portable mode:
https://www.metatrader5.com/en/terminal/help/start_advanced/start

2) Go to the %appdata%\MetaQuotes\Terminal\ folder:

3) Find the terminal you want to stop update (terminal path is shown in the origin.txt):

 for example:

C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\MetaQuotes\Terminal\AB9F6E18D2071483BB27FE0FE4EE9CE9\

4) Deny Write permission for All Groups and Users.

  1. Locate the folder: Right-click on the folder you want to modify and select "Properties".
  2. Access the Security tab: In the Properties window, click on the "Security" tab.
  3. Edit permissions: Click the "Edit" button to change the permissions.
  4. Select user/group: Choose the user or group you want to restrict from writing to the folder.
  5. Deny Write permission: In the "Permissions for [User/Group]" section, find the "Write" permission and check the "Deny" box.
  6. Apply changes: Click "Apply" and then "OK" to save the changes.

omg thank you Andrey! Did not know this is possible. The last MT5 update is extremely bad. Some things fixed but dont see forward test anymore. and you dont see each indicator working in its own timeframe.. is it possible that this also affects the backtests itself?

Yes, it's quite buggy, and they've already released it...

I haven't checked the new build yet, no time to look for bugs for MQ.
